Media & Communications Director

 

Overview:

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a Media & Communications Director to join our team! If selected, you will be planning Chamber events, and administering brand, social media, and communications standards and talking points for the organization, ensuring the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and public have consistent messaging that supports and strengthens the mission, vision and values of the Chamber.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all social media for the Chamber

  • Produce and upload content for regular and consistent social media interactions with membership and the public

  • Develop, design, and implement marketing campaigns for promoting & communicating Chamber events & initiatives

  • Edit, proofread, and write copy to establish a consistent, concise, and influential image of the Chamber in all communications and media

  • Design and layout monthly newsletter and weekly email blast utilizing Constant Contact to keep members informed of Chamber events and communications

  • Set dates, secure locations, request sponsors, schedule speakers, run presentations, manage volunteers, select menus, and coordinate with on-site vendors regarding details for all Chamber events

  • Track and manage financial results of events

  • Maintain Chamber website by compiling required data, content, and other information

  • Act as project manager for special projects, committees, and tasks to improve the organization. This includes projects to increase efficiency, add resources, and add to the relevancy of the Chamber

  • Recognize Chamber members for specific accomplishments and promote through all Chamber communications

  • Write and develop all Chamber press releases

  • Assist the President with planning and implementing Chamber’s annual legislative programming, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the President

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) is preferred

  • Exceptional customer service and relationship building skills

  • Advanced understanding of social media trends, and ability to create content for all social media platforms

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in writing, grammar, copyediting and proofreading

  • Proficient with social media platforms and smartphone apps

  • Extremely detail-oriented

  • A self-starter (proactive versus reactive in style) and strong professional interpersonal skills

  • Expert in multitasking and managing multiple projects at once to completion

  • Ability to make on the spot decisions in sometimes stressful situations while maintaining a professional and friendly attitude

  • Proven ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment while working independently and as part of a team

  • Must use tact, discretion, and diplomacy with staff, members, board members and elected officials

  • An active driver’s license, as this position does require travel to local places of business and the use of a personal vehicle may be required

  • Expert in Northland (Clay and Platte counties) geography, municipalities, history and general information

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds

  • Set up and tear down at Chamber events, focusing on IT and audio/visual aspects but frequently assisting in other areas to ensure a successful event

  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting while working with desktop computers or other technology in the office, or at Chamber events

  • Pushing and pulling of file cabinet drawers and occasional but minimal overhead lift
